Snaffle at Sujoy’s place

We were having a typical Bengali food when Sujoy’s mother’s blood-curdling scream came from the bedroom and was so loud that we thought she saw something terrible. No, in fact, it was the other way round. She hadn’t seen what she was expecting and that made her scream. We ran towards the room to see what had happened? We saw her holding a big clay terracotta pot in her hand. Looking at Sujoy, she showed the pot to him and started shaking it upside down in a way hoping that something would fall out of it and simultaneously said, “They are not here, they are nowhere, surely there has been loot.” The gravy of fish curry was dripping down my hands and my mouth was full of unswallowed rice.   I was dumbstruck, trying to make out what the matter was? How can a lady cry for water like this, or why would someone do a loot of water?                While I was gulping down my food, Suj...

Mr. Zero body

Like everyone else, she too had a best friend. But unlike many others her friend had told her to keep mum about his presence in her life. She used to call him Mr. Zero body because of his appearance with no eyes, no ears, no mouth, nothing that could define that shape as face, not even brain but a whole black shape. However, he had a very great significance in her life; a parasitic friend. He used to live in her cupboard. She first met Mr. Zero  Body 2 years ago in the funeral of his father behind the trees across the road looking straight at her even if he had no eyes. Since then he stayed with her, where she had kept the gifts of her father. Mr. Zero Body got himself buried under the precious memories of her father. She used to live alone but she was never lonely. Whenever was she lonely, he would always be there by her side. At the peak of her loneliness her best friend used to show up from the cupboard. When   she needed a friend a   black hand had starte...

Black

Black,my favourite, matured colour. Why don't they like it. Maybe finding it rude. But if you see, It has got every inch of every colour. Or maybe has the flavours of its life. White, suffices their purity rules  But it is a new player  Still to meet other colours And at last be black finally.                                                                                ~Shreya Swain

A VISIT TO FEROZ SHAH KOTLA STADIUM

It was 12 th of May 2017. I went to see IPL live with my parents. I was very elated as my wish to see M.S.Dhoni and IPL live was fulfilled after a long time. The match which I am talking about was held in Feroz Shah Kotla stadium between ‘Delhi Daredevils’ and ‘Rising Pune Supergiants’. From Rohtak it takes one and half hour to reach Delhi. When we reached Delhi, we took a metro route from Mundka to Kirtinagar. Every second the distance was reducing and every second my excitement was racing up. Then we took another metro to Mandi House which went underground from the flyover track. From Mandhi House took the last metro ride till ITO which was the place where we had to collect our tickets. We had to go to gate no.1 but by mistake we reached to gate no.3. After taking help from police we reached to gate no.1. There we collected our tickets and after that we ha...

Meeting Ruskin Bond

Image
“I have heard that you are planning to go to Mussoorie this Summer, Shreya.” Arshi enquired before going to her place for vacation. “Yes, you heard it right, from wherever you have heard it.” With a giggle she said, “Do you know Ruskin Bond sits in a cafe or somewhere to sign the books of his fans. Last week, I saw a picture of Mithali Raj (Indian woman cricketer) with him. There, I got to know about this.” I just gave a nod to this, with a ‘hmmmm...” still wondering where did she get to know about my trip. Then Arshi said,“So, goodbye, meet you after your trip and please do try to meet and take a selfie also with him”. I knew it before that Ruskin Bond lives somewhere in Mussoorie. After coming back home, I Googled where does Mr. Bond live in Mussoorie, which helped me to know that he, lives in Landour, which is not exactly in Mussoorrie, but near it. In the evening when papa arrived home, I jumped over him and nearly knocked him off. “Can we go to Landour for one da...

Mass Bunking (III final)

When   I reached the school bell had already rung and I ran towards my class; saw nothing there but a water bottle   it was of Gunjan’s, if I remember it correctly, I thought that she must have left it here in first shift, felt relieved and cursed myself for being unnecessarily Sherlock Holmes. As the bell had rung already, I turned back to see my 5 th lesson’s teacher coming straight towards me. I was in a tight spot, so I prefered to run away. I ran until I had left her way back. There, roaming in corridors I had no way to go back home so the best and only way to pass my leisure time was to sit in library, and it was also a way to take a sneaks peek if Gunjan was sitting there or was just showing off in the class. Surprisingly,  she wasn’t there. 10 minutes had passed now only 30 minutes for   6 th period. After the teachers students would disperse from one class to another it would be easy for me to run home.I kept my bag on shelf outside the library,went...

Mass Bunking (II)

I said yes for the mass bunk idea, but still had a doubt in my mind that some girls might ditch us by coming to school after the break. Like me there were other girls too who had the same question mark on their faces. We all asked each other and vow promises not to come to school after the break, in this kind of situations we must have some kind of assurance. By this we were bound just by a promise, this was the final thing which made everyone settle down and think what they are going to do after bunking the class.  we all would just sleep; because now we were assured that no one will come. Suddenly, Gunjan, raised her hand and said that she won’t do that. I don’t know why people like Gunjan, find pleasure being hated by others and why do they encourage a group of 40 girls to kick on their faces and throw them out of the class. Why people can’t understand that there should be mutual understanding. Why to be so selfish and put everyone in danger? Just to show off you are the ...
